Law enforcement officials in Florida reported that a missing and endangered 11-year-old girl was located with the assistance of a K-9 unit on Friday.
Responding to the call, Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy Sarah Ernstes, accompanied by K-9 Mary Lu, arrived at the 16000 block of Carlton Lake Drive around 8 p.m. Their mission: to search for the missing girl.
Tracking the girl's scent, Ernstes and K-9 Mary Lu traced her to a neighbor's residence. There, they discovered that the girl had been given a ride to a nearby apartment complex in Wimauma.
Following this lead, law enforcement units converged on the location. It was K-9 Mary Lu who provided a crucial clue, alerting deputies to a locked bathroom door within a nearby park.
Upon investigation, deputies found the missing girl safely tucked inside the locked bathroom.
Through effective communication, they persuaded her to unlock the door.
Fortunately, the girl was unharmed, found safe and sound.
Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed pride in the HCSO K9 Unit's performance, highlighting their vital role in the community. He commended their skillful efforts in locating and safely reuniting the missing girl with her family, emphasizing the team's unwavering dedication to service and protection.
