In a surprising turn of events, a newborn baby girl brought a whole new meaning to "rush hour" as her mother gave birth inside a rideshare vehicle beneath Interstate 95 in North Miami. The unexpected delivery was assisted by the mother's cousin and the quick thinking of their Lyft driver.
The incident unfolded when the mother, already in labor at home, urgently called for a Lyft to take her to the hospital. Sensing the urgency, the Lyft driver wasted no time and sped towards the destination. Recalling the intense moment, the driver shared, "So she just said, 'Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!'"
During the ride, the mother contacted her cousin, Cherley Zamor, who immediately hopped into her own car to follow the Lyft SUV carrying her pregnant relative. As the situation escalated, the Lyft driver realized they wouldn't make it to the hospital in time, prompting him to pull over beneath I-95.
Zamor arrived moments later and joined her cousin in the backseat of the rideshare vehicle.
Describing the chaotic scene, Zamor said, "She was just screaming, 'Ow, it hurts!' That’s it." With no time to spare, she called 911 and took on the role of assisting in the delivery. "I told her to push. That’s the only thing I could do, ’cause the head was already out," Zamor recounted.
Acknowledging the unprecedented situation, the Lyft driver admitted it was his first time experiencing such an event. Meanwhile, Zamor managed to deliver the baby with the help of the emergency services on the line. Once officials arrived, both the mother and her newborn daughter were safely transported to Jackson North Medical Center.
Expressing gratitude for the unexpected assistance, Zamor commended the Lyft driver, stating, "He was very helpful. We’re very thankful for him. Lyft should tip him and reward him." Despite the unconventional circumstances, both mother and baby are reported to be in good health. Zamor expressed her pride, saying, "We’re happy. It’s a healthy baby girl. She’s in health; that’s all that matters. I’m proud of myself."
