Unbeknownst to her at the time, Cardi B inadvertently transformed a mere microphone into a substantial charitable contribution, amassing nearly $100,000 in donations.
This unexpected turn of events occurred when the "WAP" rapper flung her microphone at an unruly audience member during her performance at Drai’s Beach Club in Las Vegas on July 29.
Following the viral incident, Scott Fisher, the proprietor of The Wave, an audio production company, decided to put the now-infamous microphone up for auction on eBay. Over the course of a week and 122 bids, the microphone was successfully sold for an astonishing sum of $99,900.
This sale transpired a few weeks after Cardi employed the mic as a projectile against a fan who had doused her with a cup of ice water while she was in the midst of her performance. The fan's exuberance had escalated after the Grammy-winning artist encouraged the audience to lightly spray her with water to alleviate the summer heat.
In the aftermath, a concert attendee lodged a police report, asserting an instance of battery due to being "struck by an item that was thrown from the stage." Although Las Vegas police didn't explicitly mention Cardi's name when confirming the report, the reported location of the incident coincided with the venue where the rapper had been performing.
Originally listed at $500 on eBay, the microphone-turned-improvised weapon held additional significance to Fisher, who disclosed that the microphone, still fully functional, had an initial cost of $1,000.
Proceeds from the sale are destined for the Wounded Warrior Project and the local non-profit organization Friendship Circle Las Vegas, dedicated to assisting youngsters, adolescents, and young adults with special needs.
