Titled as the priciest residential property on the market in the United States, this Naples, Florida estate is truly one-of-a-kind. Known as Gordon Pointe, the property sits in the esteemed Port Royal neighborhood and boasts an impressive list of features: a sprawling nine-acre compound encompassing a main residence, two guest houses, a whopping 20 bedrooms, 20 full bathrooms, four half bathrooms, a 231-foot yacht basin, a 111-foot floating dock, and an astonishing 1,655 feet of waterfront.
Originally purchased by John Donahue for a mere $1 million in the 1980s, Gordon Pointe began as a modest fishing cottage on just over four acres of land. Over the years, the Donahue family expanded the estate, acquiring additional land and gradually transforming it into the lavish retreat it is today. Following the passing of John and Rhodora Donahue, their 13 children have made the decision to sell the property.
Reflecting on their family's legacy and the memories made at Gordon Pointe, Bill Donahue, who oversees the family foundation, shared with the Wall Street Journal, "We've all enjoyed it, but it's more or less time to move on." John Donahue, a West Point graduate and Air Force veteran turned successful investment manager, built a remarkable family with Rhodora, encompassing 13 children, 84 grandchildren, and over 175 great-grandchildren. Throughout the years, the estate became a gathering place for prominent figures, including former President George H.W. Bush and legendary golfer Arnold Palmer.
With an asking price of $295 million, Gordon Pointe aims to set a new record for the highest-priced residential property ever sold in the United States. While the current market conditions may seem challenging, the allure of luxury real estate remains strong, as evidenced by recent high-priced transactions. The Donahue family intends to sell the estate as a whole, recognizing its unique character and the difficulty of replicating its grandeur if divided.
Despite the uncertain market dynamics, the appeal of Port Royal's exclusivity and privacy could attract a discerning buyer willing to meet the asking price. As one of the listing agents, Dawn McKenna of Coldwell Banker Realty, stated, "We did our best to price [Gordon Pointe] and we can defend that price all day long." Indeed, with its unmatched features and prestigious location, Gordon Pointe stands as a testament to luxury living in Naples, Florida.
